As we age, our skin becomes more susceptible to wrinkles and sagging. Sun exposure and years of muscle movement (i.e., smiling, chewing, and squinting) also contribute to tissue breakdown of the skin. Fortunately, there are innovative cosmetic procedures to help ease this aging process and sustain one´s youth.
Botox is a facial injectable made from botulinum A toxin and designed to help eliminate or improve persistent facial wrinkles. This non-surgical procedure commonly treats areas like frown lines between the eyebrows, “crow´s feet,” and creases on the forehead through a number of tiny needle injections.
About 10 to 15 minutes.
Immediate. No down time.
The effects of Botox ® injections will appear within 7 days, and may last up to 6 months.
Outpatient – Usually in the surgeon&´s clinic
Restylane is a popular solution towards gaining a more youthful appearance. This facial filler is a non-animal, biodegradable gel composed of hyaluronic acid (a substance found in the body that provides more volume to the skin). Through tiny injections, Restylane® is FDA-approved for smoothing facial folds and wrinkles in areas around the mouth and eyes.
A few minutes to a half hour
During the first 48 hours after treatment, you must monitor your movements. Do not massage or rub the treated area and (if you´ve had had lip enhancement) avoid puckering your lips. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense sunlight or extreme cold.
Results can be seen immediately; the temporary effect can last up to six months (factors like age, skin type, and daily activities can influence how long results will last).
In tiny amounts, the doctor injects crystal-clear gel into the dermis (middle layer of skin) lifting the wrinkle into the desired correction and creating volume in an area that has a sunken or hollow look. This is an area where hyaluronic acid has decreased.
